The year 2020 sure is one for the history books.
It is what one will call “Santrofi anoma. Wo fa no a, woafa mbusu. Wo gyae no a, woagyae ade pa”
It is turning out to be both a major curse and a huge blessing. The year of a major pandemic, of a type many in our generation have never seen before, or imagined possible. A pandemic that has seen many fall sick, thousands dead and changed forever our idea of what work is. It has seen once prosperous companies file for bankruptcy, and made paupers out of once prosperous people.
YET, in the midst of this, we see, for the very first time in Ghana and the United States, two accomplished women, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman and Senator Kamala Harris chosen as running mates of major political parties.
Finally, she, the girl child, has an opportunity to be at the biggest table in these two countries. We are at the threshold of making history, and breaking the thickest glass ceiling of all. Whatever the year 2020 ends up being, it sure is going to be one for the history books.
Like President Obama said. and I quote, “Now let’s go make history.”
